The Testament of Solomon tells us that Atrax was one of the seventy-two demons that King Solomon used in the construction of his Temple. A demon of fevers, Atrax was made to perform heavy labor by the king, such as keeping the furnaces stoked for metalwork. He is described as having a shapeless head, like a dog, but with the face of a bird, donkey, or ox.

To banish Atrax, chop up coriander and smear it on the lips of the person who has been inflicted with one of the demon's fevers. Then, recite the following charm: "The fever which is from dirt, I exorcise thee by the throne of the most high God, retreat from dirt and retreat from the creature fashioned by God."
