On the Isle of Man, England, Babban Ny Mheillea ("harvest baby") was a fertility spirit; it lived in the last sheaf of corn at the time of harvest. This sheaf, cut by a young maiden, was to be made into an effigy of the corn spirit, decorated, paraded, and then held in honor at a feast. The effigy of Babban Ny Mheillea was kept until sowing season when the spirit was then released back into the filed.
Other traditions involving the corn dolls require some form of sacrifices, be it a simulation or an actual spilling of blood.
