In Ireland the daoine sidhe ("dark elves") were a race of human-sized jinn, some scholars would suggest they were the last remnants of the Tuatha De Danann who were driven to live underground by the Milesians (Gaels). Other lore suggests they were the shayatin who were too good to be banished to Hell.
As a race, they enjoy doing battle, hurling, playing chess, and riding their milk while horses. Described as being more or less human in size, and waring green clothing and red hats, the daoine sidhe were generally benign or indifferent to mankind. There are some stories of them using their magic to prevent milk from being churned into butter in the churn and stealing children. Typically they lived underground or underwater in lakes or the sea.
