In the folklore of Lancashire and Yorkshire, England Jenny Greenteeth was a water-jinni who lived in the Yorkshire River; when children came too close to her domain, she reached out, grabbed, and held them under the water until they drowned. She was described as looking like a hag with long green hair and sharp teeth. Similar to Peg Powler, she was used by parents as a Nursery Bogie. Associated with duckweed, a plant that covers the surface of stagnant water, this water jinni would lure children to step out onto the plants, then when the child was away form the bank, the plant would part, the child would fall into the water, and the plants would come back together, hiding any evidence of the child's disappearance.
Jenny Greenteeth was the feminine version of an injurious spirit known as Bloddy-Bones, Rawhead, and Tommy Rawhead.
