In Zoroastrian demonology Saurva, a type of Daeva, is the chief of the Devs. A demon of hunger, he commits acts that are evil, lawless, oppressive, tyrannical, and violent. To keep away from being victimized by Sauru, he must be rejected outright in deed, thought, and word. His personal adversary is Khshathra Vairya. His name in Avestian may mean "archer."
