Born the offspring of "the great one," Tephras, the demon of ashes, is listed as one of the Spirits of Solomon, bound to work on the temple carrying stones. This demon may be summoned any time of the day or night, and is most powerful during the summer months. Tephras creeps into the corners of walls and is known to bring darkness to man, cause convulsions and fevers, destroy homesteads, and set fields on fire. His personal adversary is the angel Azael (otherwise known as Azazel). His name is Greek for "the ashes of a funeral pyre."
